News Story: How can I be sure of the legality of PGDs?
The PGDs provided by PharmaDoctor have been written by our multidisciplinary team (MDT) headed by our in house clinical director, a pharmacist himself. The MDT comprises of the UK Pharmacy Clinical lead, a nurse with over 20 years’ experience in travel medicine and a GMC registered doctor. Though pharmacies are not currently required to register with the Care Quality Commission, as we are an independent medical agency registered with the Care Quality Commission, we can authorise and subsequently sell private PGDs to pharmacists.
All non-vaccine PGDs must be assigned to and used in a GPhC registered pharmacy with the approval of the Superintendent pharmacist. Vaccine PGDs can be taken off-site if suitable premises are found.
Unlike pharmacist prescribing, pharmacists entitled to work with a PGD require no additional formal qualification. All PGDs from Pharmadoctor come with free training and assessment to ensure that authorised pharmacists have sufficient competence to be able to offer a safe and efficient service to patients.
